Micro Machines London

Insight-led Innovation in Micromobility

Micro Machines London is an exploratory research project examining how people experience micromobility services in real urban contexts, and what limits wider adoption.

The project focuses predominantly on e-bike rideshare services and private e-bike ownership, combining lived rider experience with system-level analysis across vehicles, apps, infrastructure, and policy.

What this research is built on

  • A three-week diary study and co-design engagement with 12 London-based e-bike owners and rideshare users (summer 2025)
  • A series of exploratory essays designed to provoke reflection on micromobility, cities, and everyday movement
  • First-person, in-depth reporting from real journeys
  • Analysis across the full service experience: vehicles, software, streets, and pricing

Where this work is useful

  • Product and service innovation in micromobility
  • Vehicle and interaction design decision-making
  • Trial design, evaluation, and iteration
  • Policy, infrastructure, and governance discussions
